Don Martin Leukemia Recovery Fund

To my family of AGA, Peter, Jan, and many others,

I am an AML patient, acute myeloid leukemia.  The financial aspects of fighting cancer are overwhelming me in my battle of cancer.  39 years in the Appraisal industry have presented me with many challenges and now I am faced with one I cannot fight alone.  I am asking anyone that can help me to please do so.  To date, I have spent 56 days in the hospital between 7 hospital visits.  Beginning with chemo 24/7 for the first 27 days of the 56, with consolidation chemo at three more in hospital stays. I have endured abscesses due to the chemo that required my back to be lanced twice and one of my teeth to be taken after one of the early rounds of chemo.  After subsequent rounds of chemo, they took my appendix and I suffered a blood infection with a high fever.  Through the process I’ve had 38 blood transfusions, 13 platelet transfusions and 309 needle sticks.  I have kept my faith in God and prayed through all of it, to keep me going and ask for the prayers of many around me.  I am currently in a remission stage, but my blood counts as of yet have not recovered.  I am told that they might recover in years, but they might not also never recover.  As such my energy level has only increased to about 2/3 of what it was perhaps two years ago. Because I am not able to work to the degree that I did two years ago, the bills keep piling in and has become more than difficult to keep up.  My savings entirely wiped out. A big problem with cancer patients like myself, is while insurance helps pay medical bills, when you are unable to work full time to the extent that you once were, there is nothing to pay that gap for the bills that keep coming and coming, that you were able to pay before when your energy levels were normal.

I am currently in a trial study, in which I am literally the first human being on earth to have received an experimental vaccine.  I am six months into the trial study and have received my 6th vaccination to date.  Before me it was tested on monkeys.  The idea of the vaccine is to stimulate T cells in my body to fight cancer.  During the last few months I’ve had chest pain, from which they are trying to determine if it might be connected to this vaccine.

I have a gofundme page for my “Don Martin Leukemia Recovery Fund” located at gofund.me/jgpy8zck

I also have a page on caring bridge located at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/donaldmartin/journal/view/id/56ef7b98ab28b90955aed943

My sister who is a musician is putting together a fundraiser locally, which I have attached the flyer she has made thus far.  The flyer will still be tweaked a bit yet, but still it has the basic information that will tell people what they need to know.

I am reaching out to Appraisers and others for help.  As you have access to many Appraisers around the country, anything you could do to get the word out, would really be helpful

Thank you and God bless you in advance for whatever help you can give.  Please help spread the word.  I know there are many good people that get your messages, that would consider helping someone in need like myself.
Regards,
Don
